Chile’s unemployment rate rose to 8.9% in the January–March 2026 quarter, up from 8.3% in the previous quarter. Year-on-year, the number of unemployed persons increased by 3.3%, driven by a 2.0% rise in those already unemployed and a 14.5% increase in first-time job seekers. The unemployment rate among women reached 10.0%, while for men it stood at 8.1%. In the Metropolitan Region, unemployment for the January–March 2026 quarter climbed to 9.6%. The combined unemployment and potential labor force rate—covering both the unemployed and those outside the labor force who are available for or seeking work—reached 17.4%.
